Usthad Hotel : Movie Review

,
One of the best movie with a good message. Superb direction by Anwar Rasheed

This movie is enterly different from Anwars previous movies Rajamanikyam, Chotamumbai, Annan Thambi, and Bridge (Kerala Cafe). Story tells about the relationship of Kareem (Thilakan) and his grandson Faisi(Dulquer Salmaan).

Once again Thilakan proved that he is the best actor in Malayalam cinema. Mammootty's son, Dulquar Salman also played an important role with Nithya menon. All songs and background scores are superb (Gopi Sundar ). Once again hats off Anjali Menon for a fantastic script.

The movie tells about the story of a Hotel and relationship between different generations. In this movie Love to Humanity is discussed. I don't want to discuss the story here. Go and watch in the theater. Its a family Entertainer.

One of the classic movie in Malayalam A simple n Heart touching movie.... everyone should promote dis kind of movies.... Dulqar really rocked.... Emotional scenes are perfectly done by him..... Thanx to Anwar rashid n Anjali menon for giving such an awesome movie....
Positives:
>direction

Rating: 3.0/5.0

CBFC rating: U/A

Synopsis:
Kamal Krishna (Karthi) is a soft guy based in Samarlakota. He strives hard to continue the charity work started by his parents. His ancestral house which is coming in the way of a Railway project will be ceased by the Government. He comes to Hyderabad to give a petition to the Chief Minister Bhoopathi (Prakash Raj) to save his house. He later comes to know it is actually the Chief Minister who is behind the project. Humiliated Kamal revolts against the CM and grows in politics by leaps and bounds. And the rise of Kamal in politics forms the actual story.
Performances:
Karthi is at his best in the character of Kamal. He gave his best for it but the director failed to use him completely as an actor. His attempt to dub his own voice is commendable. He had put in decent efforts in dancing and fights. His costumes are neat and styling suited to that of a political leader. He has good histrionics and face value which appeal for Malayalam  audience even though he is a Tamilian and it will do good in the long run in Kerala.
Pranitha played the character of Sri Devi who is Kamal’s mardalu in the movie. She has very limited screen presence and is okay in them. Radhika, Roja, Prakash Raj, Kota Srinivasa Rao are good in the limited roles they are offered. Santhanam’s comedy track is good and had almost equal screen presence to hero in the first half.
Technical Performance:
Director Shankar Dayal is the black sheep. He let the movie down with awful screenplay and bad narration. The entire first half of the movie is wasted with out going in to the story. He did not take care to add enough ‘build up’ to the hero character which is very much needed in the political dramas. Cinematography by Muthaiah is good. Sreekar Prasad’s editing should have been better in the first half. GV Prakash’s songs are good. All of them are well picturised. And the back ground score is a total let down.

Shanghai Movie Review

The Hindi movie Shanghai, starring Emraan Hashmi as Jogi Parma, Abhay Deol as T.A. Krishnanand Kalki Koechlin as Shalini Sahay, will be released on Friday, June 8, 2012 in India and across the world.
The movie was directed by Dibakar Banerjee and produced byAjay Bijli,  Dibakar Banerjee,  Sanjeev K Bijli,  Priya Sreedharan.
The movie is based on the life of dirty politicians and their greed. A small town somewhere in India is poised to become the next Shanghai.
Billions of dollars are being poured into an upcoming international business park. On the eve of its launch, a drunk truck driver mows down a prominent social activist.
A lone girl believes it to be a murder, supported by a porn film maker who claims to have the proof that will bring the government down.
A high ranking bureaucrat is brought in to investigate the accident. Shanghai, a political thriller, follows the journey of these unlikely heroes as they come together to find justice in the labyrinth of Indian democracy.

Take any of your favourite political thrillers. What you'd find is political insight and compelling suspense, seamlessly woven to demystify your flimsy notions and beliefs about that subject. While the protagonist peels the layers off falsehood, you experience the joy of veils dropping. You get more than just the solution of a mystery; a new interpretation of the event, a shocking perspective. Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai is one such political thriller. This terrific film hits you like a hurricane and terrifies you to bits. It has an abiding effect that will haunt you even hours after you’ve left the theatre.

A fictional town in India (Bharatnagar) is poised to become the next Shanghai. This re-development project, called the International Business Park (IBP) is headed by two corrupt political parties. On the eve of its launch, a tempo mows down a prominent social activist (Prosenjit Chatterjee). His student, Shalini Sahay (Kalki Koechlin) believes it to be a murder. She seeks help from Joginder Parmar (Emraan Hashmi), videographer by day and porn filmmaker by night, to investigate the accident. Enter the reticent but strict IPS officer Krishnan (Abhay Deol) who takes matters in his own hands. What follows is the journey of these characters and their pursuit to find justice in the murky labyrinth of Indian democracy.

Inspired by ‘Z’(a book by Vassilis Vassilikos), which spoke largely about Greek politics in the 60s, Dibakar Banerjee has successfully Indianised the political tension and made Shanghai a fresh subject of his own. The film isn’t about politicians dressed in Khadi. Instead, it’s about how politics adversely affects our day-to-day existence. It explores the underbelly of a township at the mercy of the corrupt politicians. In the name of progress, the poor is exploited and left to fend for themselves.

Shanghai works not just because it excels in its genre. But for the people that you see in the film – their problems, actions and the situations thrown at them which the audience can easily relate to. The gritty milieu and an equally edgy soundtrack play an important role in keeping you engaged. Also, the use of satire is evident: tragedy and comedy, death and life, exist side by side.

Amongst the performances, it is Emraan Hashmi who shines. He has a deep understanding of what he’s doing in front of the camera. He knows how to maintain an immediate direct relationship with the audience. His fans who expect him to just sing songs and smooch his lady love on screen will be thoroughly disappointed. Abhay Deol as the cold, calculative and honest officer is true to his role. He plays his part just well-enough and doesn’t let it become a caricature. Kalki Koechlin is there from the first frame to the last with more screen space than Abhay and Emraan. Without her the film doesn’t exist. But her subdued performance lets the others take centre stage.

The real hero of the film is Dibakar Banerjee. At the very start of the film he puts all his cards on the table. Yet, he succeeds in keeping us engrossed. In less than two hours, he packs a riveting drama with a sledge hammer of a social message. No gimmicks, just good old story-telling.

‎Rowdy Rathore Review

After tickling the audiences with his wit and humour for years, now our very own Khiladi Akshay Kumar is back with raw action in his latest release Rowdy Rathore. Directed by the dance guru Prabhi Deva, Rowdy Rathore is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Vikramarkudu. Rowdy Rathore is a full-blown masala entertainer, that will surely impress you with Akki's desi punches, colourful songs and lots of romance.

Story: Rowdy Rathore narrates the story of Rowdy (Akshay Kumar), who is a petty thief and gets the thrill out of duping people. Rowdy falls head-over-heels in love with Priya (Sonakshi Sinha), a pretty girl, whom he met at a wedding in which he wasn't invited. The story takes a shocking twist after a six-year-old Neha enters into the picture and claims that Rowdy is her father. Rowdy decides to find out the truth behind the girl's claim, that finally unveils the mystery of the story.

Performances: Akshay plays a double role in the movie, that bestows him with abundant opportunity to flaunt each shade of his skill. Akki is in his best form, with his rowdy romance and comedy. Akshay promises raw action in the film and his one-liner ‘Don’t Angry Me’ is already on everyone’s lips, which make for a good recall value. Sonakshi plays a lovable, charming, yet impish character very well. Especially, the desi girl image suits her impeccably. The child artist portraying the part of Akshay's daughter, is really cute. Other characters like Paresh Ganatra, Yashpal Sharma, Gurdeep Kohli adds colour to their respective episodes.

Music: Pretty Sonakshi Sinha's red sari act on the number 'Chammak Challo Chail Chabeeli', draws a comparison with Kareena Kapoor's 'Chammak Challo' from Ra.One. 'Chinta Ta Ta' is the pick of the lot and the presence of leading actors Vijay and Kareena Kapoor and Prabhu Dheva himself gives it an edge, while 'Dhadang Dhang Dhang' and 'Aa Re Pritam Pyaare' are lively, full-of-zest tracks as well.

Talking on a serious note, the story of Rowdy Rathore goes illogical to some extent, but it won't disappoint you at all due to it's desi packaging. Akshay’s moustache and garish look in the film as Rowdy works for the character and his action skills were never doubted by anyone. The film reaches an all time high due to the fun, action And Akki's dialogues.

Verdict: Overall, Rowdy Rathore has the potential to set the cash registers ringing, provided it delivers what it promised. Rowdy Rathore is a total paisa wasool film, hence it's a must watch.
