After the big hit of ‘Puthiya Mugam’, Prithviraj and Diphan are joining their hands to try their luck once again in the movie called ‘Hero’.
‘Hero’ brings to life the story of Tarzan Antony(Prithviraj), a young man from a lower middle class family who becomes a stuntman for films.Antony’s father Thankachan worked as a driver among the film crowd in Chennai for some time and whenever the father came home, Antony used to listen to his father’s tales about the film world with rapt attention. In his hometown, Antony was a minor bully picking up quarrels which usually ended in fist fights.
So, when Dharmaraj, a stunt master, impressed by the young man’s physique, invited Antony to join his troupe, he immediately accepted the offer. His impressive performance as a stuntman pleases Dharmaraj so much that Antony becomes his favourite disciple.Dharmaraj’s nephew Udayan, who is also a dupe, is not happy at all at these developments and becomes hostile towards Antony, ultimately forcing Antony to return to his hometown. But Dharmaraj misses the quality of Antony and his work suffers badly.
In the meantime, Udayan, with the strong support of super star Premanad, becomes a well known stuntman. Finally, Dharmaraj gets an opportunity to work in a film but due to lack of a good dupe, he was unable to take up the work.As a last resort, Dharmaraj goes in search of Antony and pleads to Antony to come back to the films.Dharmaraj tells Antony that his support will help in getting his daughter married.Antony’s loyalty and love for Dharmaraj convinces him to make a return to the stunt arena. The film becomes a roaring success and Dharmaraj becomes busy once again.
Jealousy raises its head again and Dharmaraj has enemies in the form of other stunt groups.Tussles and struggles develop and these are illustrated interestingly in the movie ‘Hero’.
Prithviraj with his muscular body is an apt choice for the role of Antony and does his part impressively.Bala is in Udayan’s role and Sreekanth acts as the superstar Premanand.Yami Gautam has not done much in the film.Anoop Menon is fine and rest all rated passie. The director has taken maximum advantage of Prithvi’s physique and crammed the movie with stunt scenes, sometimes overdoing it.
Cinematography by Bharani K Dharan is absolutely flawless to the point of being perfect.Music by Gopi Sunder is just about average.Editing by Samjith and art editing by Girish Menon have both been imposing while the action sequences by Kanal Kannan have been absorbing and relatively of a higher standard.Though the actions have been too frequent and very high voltage, the flick is comparable to the standard South Indian action films and the youth of to-day are going to enjoy it.
But as comparing to Diphan’s ‘Puthiyamugham’ which was an public catched film and though “Hero” may not be as good as that, it doesn’t make too many demands on your time. And that’s not such a bad thing at all.
verdict : Mass Entertainer
Rating : 3.5/5
Arrivaal Chuttika Nakshtram
First it was the triumphant ‘Big B’, and then ‘Sagar Alias Jacky’ and ‘Anwar’ Director Amal Neerad, who has already built a young fans group for himself, with his differently styled movies, has been in the lookout for a different but effective name for his new movie.
Now the director seems to have finalised his title of the fourth movie, featuring Megastar Mammootty and Prithviraj as ‘Arrivaal, Chuttika Nakshtram’. ‘Arival Chuttika Nakshatram’ is being looked upon by film lovers with great enthusiasm, especially since it brings together Mammootty and Prithviraj.
The film that would be scripted by Shankar Ramakrishnan, would tell a story that has been set in the 50′s. Reportedly Prithvi would play villain to Mammootty’s hero in the film. Earlier it was even suggested that Vidya Balan might play the female lead in the film, but with the film being delayed a bit, wonder if she would still be a part of the cast.
Manjadikuru : Review
Director Anjali Menon's Manjadikuru (Lucky Red Seeds), which has already received appreciation at various prestigious film festivals, puts the viewer on a nostalgic pedestal.
In his likeable baritone, Vicky (Prithviraj) travels down memory lane to an old household in a remote Kerala village, which he had visited years back on a trip from the Gulf with his parents (Sagar Shiyas and Urvashi).
His grandfather had died and Vicky was witness to the intriguing mindsets of some of the adults there.
The members of the family were mainly keen on divvying up the ancestral property, and everyone had their own issues to sort out.
The tensions affected the warmth in their relationships to a great extent, but that didn't stop the young Vicky (Siddharth) from becoming friends with his cousins (Rijosh and Arathi Sasikumar), and also with a young Tamil maid, Roja (Vyjayanthi).
While the kids were busy trying to find money to send Roja back to her hometown, the elders were busy hatching plans to get hold of the fortunes.
The initial portions of the film show the contradictions in the thought process of the kids and the grown-ups. But it is later revealed that almost every individual has a noble mind; it's just circumstances that make them the way they are.
With superb visuals by Pietro Zuercher and music by Ramesh Narayan, the writer-director packages this cute film in a genuine way. Though it would have been more delicious had the length been a little shorter - mainly due to some of the songs that come in between - the film will deepen your attraction to this wonderful land called Kerala.
It is to the credit of director Anjali Menon that she has used the stars only to the extent that the script demands, without considering their 'off screen aura'.
Prithviraj makes his presence felt mostly with his spectacular narration. From Murali, Urvashi, Bindu Panicker, Rahman, Praveena, Sreedevika, Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Sagar Shiyas and Sindhu Menon, all the actors have done their roles in an impressive manner.
Manjadikuru comes as a whiff of fresh air. Enjoy this fabulous debut of a new talent called Anjali Menon straightaway!

Rani out, Kareena as Begum
Earlier there was a buzz that Bengali beauty Rani Mukherjee has given her nod for well-acclaimed filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia's next project, a period film, which is based on the chronicles of Begum Joanna Nobilis Sombre aka Begum Samru. However, of late, news is that Rani has been replaced by our Chamak Challo talent house Kareena Kapoor.
After his successful outing with Irrfan Khan starrer 'Paan Singh Tomar', Tigmanshu Dhulia had set out to do a period film where Rani was supposed to play the title role of Begum Samru - a very influential lady of 18th century. Although Rani was quite gung ho to do the film when the helmer approached her, she was however delaying to respond back. Consequently Dhulia considered to opt for Kareena and made the offer to her. While it is heard that Kareena was quite excited and positive to be part of the project, the director made few changes in the character to suit the actress.
Now talks are that the project is speeding up its building process and expected to start shooting in coming September or October.
Remember, Bebo has already tasted the genre of period film with 'Asoka', starring Shah Rukh Khan. Let's see how the sizzler fares in this latest historical venture. For the records, Begum Samru's name is eminent in history for her influential work in politics and she also headed Mercenary army, inherited from her European husband Walter Reinhardt Sombre.
