After the big hit of ‘Puthiya Mugam’, Prithviraj and Diphan are joining their hands to try their luck once again in the movie called ‘Hero’.
‘Hero’ brings to life the story of Tarzan Antony(Prithviraj), a young man from a lower middle class family who becomes a stuntman for films.Antony’s father Thankachan worked as a driver among the film crowd in Chennai for some time and whenever the father came home, Antony used to listen to his father’s tales about the film world with rapt attention. In his hometown, Antony was a minor bully picking up quarrels which usually ended in fist fights.
So, when Dharmaraj, a stunt master, impressed by the young man’s physique, invited Antony to join his troupe, he immediately accepted the offer. His impressive performance as a stuntman pleases Dharmaraj so much that Antony becomes his favourite disciple.Dharmaraj’s nephew Udayan, who is also a dupe, is not happy at all at these developments and becomes hostile towards Antony, ultimately forcing Antony to return to his hometown. But Dharmaraj misses the quality of Antony and his work suffers badly.
In the meantime, Udayan, with the strong support of super star Premanad, becomes a well known stuntman. Finally, Dharmaraj gets an opportunity to work in a film but due to lack of a good dupe, he was unable to take up the work.As a last resort, Dharmaraj goes in search of Antony and pleads to Antony to come back to the films.Dharmaraj tells Antony that his support will help in getting his daughter married.Antony’s loyalty and love for Dharmaraj convinces him to make a return to the stunt arena. The film becomes a roaring success and Dharmaraj becomes busy once again.
Jealousy raises its head again and Dharmaraj has enemies in the form of other stunt groups.Tussles and struggles develop and these are illustrated interestingly in the movie ‘Hero’.
Prithviraj with his muscular body is an apt choice for the role of Antony and does his part impressively.Bala is in Udayan’s role and Sreekanth acts as the superstar Premanand.Yami Gautam has not done much in the film.Anoop Menon is fine and rest all rated passie. The director has taken maximum advantage of Prithvi’s physique and crammed the movie with stunt scenes, sometimes overdoing it.
Cinematography by Bharani K Dharan is absolutely flawless to the point of being perfect.Music by Gopi Sunder is just about average.Editing by Samjith and art editing by Girish Menon have both been imposing while the action sequences by Kanal Kannan have been absorbing and relatively of a higher standard.Though the actions have been too frequent and very high voltage, the flick is comparable to the standard South Indian action films and the youth of to-day are going to enjoy it.
But as comparing to Diphan’s ‘Puthiyamugham’ which was an public catched film and though “Hero” may not be as good as that, it doesn’t make too many demands on your time. And that’s not such a bad thing at all.
